who are we:
Artellewa is an artistic space established and managed by Hamdy Reza since 2007. It is located in the Ard Al-Lewaa area, a densely populated random area located between two random areas in Cairo, Ambaba and Bulaq El Dakrour. Artellewa provided free space for the formation and activation of dialogue between artists and the community; facilitation of artists’ projects, workshops for community members and emerging artists, art exhibitions and hosting of artists in a residence, as well as special projects to enrich urban and cultural life in In order to improve the urban environment.
Artellewa aims to create a space for reflection during this stage of the transitional period; a space for the renewal of ideas and progressive thinking and the achievement of communication between the Land of the Land and its inhabitants with the wider culture of the city and the world through art, creating a unique opportunity for Egyptian and foreign artists to interact and experiment with society and the local environment.

Projects and activities:
Exhibitions: Art exhibitions are organized in the Ard Al-Lewaa area, a small open space on the street. It organizes art exhibitions for major artists and young artists from inside and outside Egypt. Every year Artellewa organizes the first exhibition of an Egyptian artist.
Workshops: offered by artists to the people of the region and the emerging artists free of charge, or symbolic fee.
The artistic presence: The artists are hosted from abroad to interact with the community and the environment of the land of the brigade, to perform research and to present works of art that are presented and to establish relations with the artistic community in Cairo. The presence of foreign artists to stay in Artellewa from 13 countries so far, Sudan, Turkey, Jordan, Spain, Switzerland, Norway and the United States.
Activities include exhibitions and workshops for children, adults, artists and those who do not have a direct connection to art, and an interview with artists that allows the public to learn about works of art by Egyptian and foreign artists.
Projects: The project aims at enriching the civil and cultural life of Al-Majdah area. Art is used to develop the environment of the region.
Shop: The shop area is nine square meters, facing one of the streets in the area of the brigade of the bustling. The shop includes artists’ exhibitions and their own projects, and because the shop allows the passerby to interact with the place, the shop was used for several other purposes including: studio, show room, restaurant and coffee.
Kitchen: The kitchen is part of the home of artist Hamdi Reza, the founder and general manager of Artellewa
The “kitchen” area is an emergency meeting space for “cooking” ideas. From this kitchen you can imagine what will be the Artellewa program where projects are conceived and the visual identity of the place and how it will continue to grow.
Garage: The garage area is a library, a meeting place, technical workshops and lectures. It also has seating for 30 people, projector, display, computers and audio system.
The mixer is an open, non-divisible studio designed to facilitate interaction between various artists. The studio’s location coordinates are 100 square meters and are four meters high and 25 centimeters high. The mixer studio includes a small theater, work spaces as well as some tools and equipment to produce Artworks. Tanks for artists to save their own objects and tools, tables and work chairs as well as a toilet and a kitchenette. Studio “Mixer” can be from four to six artists, or a play group working at the same time
Surface (1 & 2) The “roof” is a venue for meetings, art workshops and celebrations. The gatherings are informal where outdoor barbecues are also provided with a water cycle, chairs, tables and storage areas. The roof is the favorite place for art artists who enjoy the comfort of the sun.
Apartment (1) The apartment is located in the fourth floor and is used as a place of residence for artists. The apartment has two artists to accommodate at the same time. There are two separate living quarters, two separate entrances to the apartment, a common kitchen, an equipped bathroom and a common room with tables and chairs for work and meetings. The apartment is equipped with basic needs for a comfortable living.
The apartment (2) is another small apartment located in the second building, and is also used to host the artists.
The box (1) is a quiet room with an area of 20 meters, free of windows used as a store.
Box 2 is a quiet room with an area of 25 meters, free of windows used as a store and we plan to turn it into a sound studio.
The entire area of Art Wau and the nearby café is covered by internet access (Wi-Fi)
